Shortcuts on desktop changed to Ms.Word
Have you ever wonder why the shortcut on the Desktop can be turned into a shortcut for Ms. Word? Usually there are problems like this in Windows 7. It's likely not a virus but the Default File Type Associations are broken or missing.
To that end, the first step before you corrected notice under this rule:
1. Backup your Registry! use the keys (Windows + R) and type regedit.
2. Create a restore point and make sure your computer has been safe.

- Note: Default Windows 7 File Extension Types:
- For example Pls type a file extension opens with the wrong program by default, has the wrong icon, or is missing or corrupted in the registry. Then download the missing and follow the steps below :
1. Click on the file extension type link listed below for the one that you wish to restore to default to download it's .zip file.
2. Save the .zip file to your desktop.
3. Open the downloaded .zip file, then extract (drag and drop) the .reg file to the desktop.
4. Right click on the extracted .reg file and click on Merge.
NOTE: If you wish to see what changes will be made by the REG file, then you can right click on the extracted REG file and click on Edit to see the default registry entries that will be added. REG files are just text files. The "Edit" function just opens them in Notepad.
5. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK.TipIf you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.
6. When done, you can delete the downloaded .zip and .reg files on the desktop if you like.
7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.

I really like this concept and I find it quite interesting and useful. The steps for creating shortcuts are very easy. I just followed the steps and I am in position to create shortcuts for the Word document. You can also try this method.
